Concentration in Editing & Sound Design
The search for an editor can be challenging for any director or producer so I hope that I can ease your mind in that process. I strongly believe in collaboration and communication. I do what I do because I know my strengths. I can see the cuts in my mind before they happen and I’ve always had a knack for rhythm and pacing. Simply put, it’s what I enjoy doing and that’s always been a constant in my life. I also believe in happiness, relationships, family and a respect for others. Thus, I value our time. For me to give you my full effort I have to be on board with you and your vision. I won’t waste my time or yours on something that is not fulfilling to me which, in turn, would affect my work for you. I place a lot of pride into what I do, so it’s important to me that I’m fully invested into your project so that we can create something amazing together.
When I was little, my dad would take me to the drive-in movie theater every summer in Pittsburgh, PA which helped form my passion for the movies. I quickly fell in love with filmmaking after being awed by the special effects and discovering the behind the scenes of how my favorite films were made. I started editing on a crummy old Compaq computer workstation in the laundry room of my parents basement and quickly became obsessed. I first began with video projects for school and then I started writing my own short films. Self-taught, I found myself editing long into the night on each one of my films. I loved the process of writing a story, bringing a team of my friends together to share, collaborate and execute that vision, and finally taking all that hard work and molding it into something new in the edit room and ultimately having a physical product to share with my friends and family.
In 2006, during my final semester of film school at Point Park University, I interned in the cutting room of my very first feature film, "The Mysteries of Pittsburgh." I later crewed up with an editorial team working in Philadelphia as a Post PA on M. Night Shyamalan's "The Happening" and then used that as a launching pad for a move to New York City. My time as a Post PA allowed me to meet many amazing directors, editors, and assistant editors. Those connections paid off when an Assistant Editor I had networked with hired me on a union job. I joined the Motion Picture Editors’ Guild as an Apprentice Editor on Twentieth Century Fox's "Won't Back Down" and it wasn’t long after that did I become a full time Assistant Editor on small indie films and it didn’t take long to earn a reputation as a solid Assistant Film Editor and VFX Editor now working on major motion pictures and television.
In 2016 I married the love of my life, Rebecca, and we currently live in Astoria, Queens, New York with our two cats Louie & Penny. Check out the video of how we met here.
My proudest moment thus far has been my time on the Academy Award-Winning film I, Tonya. It was quite the experience working with such an amazing team. I was pivotal in helping my editor work as efficiently as possible while I operated in duel positions - both as First Assistant Editor and VFX Editor. This was key in helping ease her workload and focus on her work which resulted in her receiving multiple film editing awards including an ACE Eddie Award, Film Independent Spirit Award and even an Oscar Nomination. Working with the Deepwater Horizon editorial team as the 2nd Assistant Editor was a big milestone. My visual effects skills were invaluable and I quickly became the liaison between VFX and Editorial. I was given a multitude of tasks to help with the film’s 900 VFX shots and I assisted in creating over 150 temporary vfx shots in a single weekend in preparation for an important screening. My talents in visual effects work, data management, and organization came in handy again when I was hired as the VFX Editor for an 8 episode series for SYFY called Happy! Running visual effects meetings with producers, show-runners, editors, and directors gave me the confidence to speak my opinion in front of a room full of VIPs and to trust my instincts. But, the role I am most proud of is my position as editor on the small film An Interview with God. I knew that my hard work and patience would pay off as I was given the opportunity to move up the ranks and fill in for my editor when he left the project early. I helped steer the film into new territory and into its final completion working hand in hand with my director.
I’m here to help you see your project to its fully realized and polished completion. I come equipped with the latest editorial software and an efficient, client-friendly workspace. If you need any visual effects work done, I can temp more complicated shots for screenings while finalizing quick, simple shots for delivery. I love crafting stories, creating work and sharing it with others. We all have so much going on in our daily lives and we need that escape every now and then. It’s important to me to help others close off the worries of their normal life and enter into a new world for a few hours and experience something new. As humans we may shut down our emotions to a lot of the stresses in life, but in a film, you can feel things you never thought possible. That’s something that is truly wonderful about the movies.
E-mail me information about your upcoming project and let's collaborate!
